Thank You For Asking Me That Question - Collected Interviews by Wilfred Brandt

Author(s): Wilfred Brandt

NON FICTION

‘Thank You For Asking Me That Question’ compiles over 10 years of interviews conducted by Sydney-based writer Wilfred Brandt. Many of these interviews are no longer available elsewhere, and most were originally published in much shorter versions. The book title is from a response given by Kathleen Hanna in an interview (included herein) for ThreeThousand.com.au. Many of the interviews here originally appeared there, or in other independent publications including Monster Children and They Shoot Homos Don’t They? Writing by Wilfred has also appeared regularly in Smith Journal, ANP Quarterly, and Acclaim, and less regularly in Vice and Yen. The book includes an introductory essay, ‘A Fan Manifesto’.

Dr Wilfred Brandt is a writer with a marked interest in subcultures specific to music, skateboarding, and DIY arts and publishing. This book follows on from other releases including a novella entitled ‘Cannonball’, a book of language-based art entitled ‘Gentlemen Prefer Bombs’, and a skate zine with no skating entitled ‘Shitty Spots’. Wilfred has a PhD from UNSW Art & Design, having completed an 80,000+ word thesis on the visual culture of skateboarding. He grew up skateboarding in Ohio (home to Alien Workshop and The Breeders), and after finishing university he worked in television in Los Angeles on the comedy show Talk Soup (where he regularly appeared onscreen, often half-naked or being hit over the head with a tiny baseball while wearing a bear costume). Other projects he’s worked on include a one person show - researched, written, and performed with Performance Space - on the History of Juvenile Delinquents in Jean Jackets in Cinema, and a show co-hosted on FBi public radio on documentary film, entitled, ‘Non-Fiction’. He is currently preparing several other books for publication, and you can follow his exploits on Instagram @ThickThongs
